HKIA's mobile liaison centre upgrades airport emergency services
It boasts of advanced digital equipment for surveillance and crisis communication.
As part of its efforts to ensure smooth airline operations, the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) launched the mobile liaison centre earlier this year to boost its emergency response capability.
According to a government news article, the $6.7m vehicle acts as an on-site coordination centre for emergency services personnel.
It is also equipped with advanced surveillance equipment like external laser cameras which can rise 2.5 meters and rotate 360 degrees.
The mobile vehicle replaced the old command car that’s been used since the airport’s opening.
"The old command car had many constraints. Technology from 20 years ago lagged far behind what is on offer today. The old car used fax machines. The new vehicle's biggest improvement is in the use of digital communications equipment,” said Airport Authority Airfield General Manager Steven Yiu.
