Cathay Cargo Terminal, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals achieve IEnvA certification

They are the first cargo handling companies to attain the certification in Asia.

The Cathay Cargo Terminal and Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (HACTL) became the first cargo handlers in Asia to achieve the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced on 12 March.

The total number of companies -- including airlines, airports, and ground-handling service providers -- now stands at 60, all having attained the prestigious certification.

The IEnvA certification is granted after a rigorous evaluation of the companies' environmental sustainability management systems and their plans for continual performance improvement.

“Their commitment to sustainable aviation sets a strong example for the industry and demonstrates the positive impact of IEnvA certification in the cargo space,” said Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA's senior vice president of sustainability and chief economist.

IEnvA certification will provide clear guidance and internationally accepted management standards to address sustainability issues, she noted.
