SIA and Cathay partner to advance sustainability in the airline industry

The airlines will promote sustainable aviation fuel in APAC.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Cathay signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on sustainability initiatives that will boost efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and initiate changes in the airline industry.

Under the deal, the two airlines aim to promote sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development and adoption in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

SIA and Cathay will work on raising public awareness about SAF’s role in decarbonising aviation, advocating for supportive policies, and promoting the creation of a standard global accounting and reporting framework to ensure transparency and verifiability of emission reductions from the use of the fuel.

The airlines are also eyeing opportunities for joint procurement of SAF at selected locations.

Another focus area will be best practices exchange to reduce single-use plastics, minimise waste, and improve energy efficiency in ground and cargo operations.
