760 more flats added to quarry development plan
Site formation works to start in 2016.
In a report, the Development Bureau said that the number of flats proposed for the Anderson Road Quarry development plan has grown from 8,650 to 9,410.
In a Legislative Council paper tabled today, it said the Planning Department conducted the Stage 2 Community Engagement on the draft Recommended Outline Development Plan for the Planning Study on Future Land Use at Anderson Road Quarry last year.
It formulated the final development plan after consulting the public.
To increase housing land supply, the department considered increasing the original planned population from 23,000 to 25,000. It estimated the move could allow for the provision of 7,530 private housing and 1,880 subsidised housing flats, accommodating respective populations of 20,000 and 5,000 people.
The total number of flats - 9,410 - is 760 more than the original plan.
Higher proposed plot ratios and building heights, and changing the use of the Government, Institution or Community site to residential can achieve the population increase.
Technical assessments of the planned population increase on the area's traffic, sewerage, drainage, environmental, geotechnical, visual, landscape, air ventilation, water supply, utilities, and sustainability aspects have been undertaken.
All assessments conclude that the proposed developments and infrastructure for the planned population of 25,000 are feasible and sustainable.
The Civil Engineering & Development Department is conducting a follow-up engineering feasibility study based on the final development plan, scheduled for completion early next year.
Site formation works, road works and infrastructure provisions within the site will be conducted after the contractor hands back Anderson Road Quarry in 2016.
