Construction output climbed 14.4% to $43.2b
As total gross value jumped 7.5%.
According to the Census & Statistics Department, the total gross value of main contractors' construction works in the first quarter rose 14.4% in nominal terms over a year earlier to $43.2 billion.
The department today released the provisional results of the Quarterly Survey of Construction Output.
After discounting the effect of price changes, the total gross value of construction increased 7.5% in real terms over the same period.
Transport projects accounted for the largest share in the total gross value of construction works performed at construction sites in the first quarter. The gross value of construction works performed in respect of these projects amounted to $10.5 billion, up 55.7% in nominal terms over a year earlier.
Residential building projects constituted the second largest group of construction site works. The gross value of construction works performed in respect of these projects totalled $9.3 billion, up 8.8% in nominal terms over a year earlier.
The gross value of construction works performed at private sector sites totalled $11.6 billion in the first quarter, up 3.4% in nominal terms over a year earlier. In real terms, it fell 3.3%.
The gross value of construction works performed at public sector sites increased 24% in nominal terms over a year earlier to $16.3 billion in the first quarter. In real terms, it increased 26.2%.
