Businesses seek cost-saving incentives from office landlords

Approximately 8 in 10 favour rent-free periods the most.

Majority of office occupiers expect cost-saving incentives from landlords amidst the conservative business outlook, according to a survey by Colliers. 

Of the 385 polled, 8 in 10 are hoping for rent-free periods (80%).

A flexible lease term was the second most favoured option to occupiers (50%).

Almost 1 in 2 (48%) of respondents said that landlords should contribute to capital expenditure cost, whilst 1 in 4 (25%) mentioned management fee discounts.

Less than 2 in 10 (17%) of office occupiers are interested in non-expense related incentives such as improved building amenities. 

Amongst sectors, respondents from the insurance (83%) and telecom (69%) sectors named flexible lease terms as a preferred incentive.

Respondents from the beauty, medical, health, or wellness sector favored non-expense related incentives, with over 3 in 10 (37%) indicating such.
