Gov’t launches tender for EV charging station site

The public tender will close on 10 May.

The government has launched a public tender for a site at 8 Kai Fuk Road, Kowloon Bay.

The site, spanning approximately 1,127 square meters, is for conversion into a quick charging station (QCS).

The move aims to address the increasing demand for charging facilities due to the rising number of electric vehicles (EVs).

The government has completed a feasibility study on converting two petrol filling stations into QCSs in Kowloon East and New Territories East.

The government will invite tenders for government land sale at these locations in stages.

The tender invitation for the site will close on 10 May.

Moreover, the government also announced a price ceiling and adjustment mechanism for charging electric taxis (e-taxis) and electric public light buses (e-PLBs) at designated QCSs.

Operators cannot charge prices exceeding the monthly ceiling price set by the Environmental Protection Department.

According to the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the measure aims to encourage the adoption of e-taxis and e-PLBs, similar to the pricing arrangement at dedicated liquefied petroleum gas filling stations.

Charging prices for other EVs will be determined by market forces.
