
34% of HK’s exports to China for outward processing
For the entire 2010, 32% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing; the figure was 19% for domestic exports and 33% for re-exports.
A total of 34% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing in the fourth quarter last year. The proportion was 17% for domestic exports and 35% for re-exports.
According to figures released by the Census & Statistics Department on Friday, 49% of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing.
Over the same period, 73% of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland.
Taking the year 2010 as a whole, 32% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing; the figure was 19% for domestic exports and 33% for re-exports.
Half of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing. Over the same period, 73% of Hong Kong's re-exports of the Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland.
The corresponding proportions in 2009 were 34% for total exports to the Mainland, 27% for domestic exports to the Mainland, 34% for re-exports to the Mainland, 50% for imports from the Mainland and 68% for re-exports of the Mainland origin to other places, according to a government report.
In value terms, $141.5 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland in this year’s fourth quarter were for outward processing, representing an increase of 13% over the fourth quarter of 2009.
The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing decreased by 23% to $1.4 billion while the value of re-exports to the Mainland for outward processing increased by 13% to $140.1 billion.
Over the same period of comparison, the value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing increased by 10% to $201 billion.
