HK inks consultancy pact to build East Kowloon eco-transit system
The green mass transit system will span 7 kilometers in total.
The Highways Department has signed an investigation, design, and construction consultancy agreement with Arup-AIS joint venture to build a green mass transit system in East Kowloon.
The proposed green mass transit system is expected to span 7km, including viaducts about 6km in length and a tunnel that is about 1km in length.
The department expects to invite tenders for its construction in 2026, with the aim of awarding the contract the following year. The eco-transit is expected to be completed by 2033 or earlier.
It is estimated to provide a commuting option for over 300,000 residents in the uphill areas and reduce traffic congestion. It is expected to provide fast transport feeder services to the northern uphill areas of Kwun Tong.
There are 8 planned stations: Choi Hung East near MTR Choi Hung Station, via Choi Wan, Shun Lee, Shun On, Sau Mau Ping, Po Tat and Ma Yau Tong to Yau Tong East near Yau Tong Station.
