New citizen travel card launched for Hong Kong & Macao permanent residents
The card will begin getting issued on 10 July.
Non-Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents will soon be eligible to apply for mainland travel permits for Hong Kong & Macao residents.
The card will begin to be issued on 10 July 2024.
Individuals holding the card will be able to enjoy self-service clearance at control points in mainland China. The card is expected to make permanent residents’ visits to the mainland easier– whether for business, traveling, and visiting relatives, according to news.gov.hk.
All non-Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents will be able to make applications to China Travel Service (HK) entrusted by the Exit & Entry Administration for travelling to the mainland multiple times.
The card offers multiple entry to mainland China with a five-year validity, for stays not exceeding 90 days each visit.
International talent of Hong Kong companies can enjoy the learance convenience for northbound travel with this card, Hong Kong chief executive John Lee is quoted saying.
Lee added that the card is not limited to any nationality or industry.
Hong Kong has recently been making moves to ease its connection to neighboring cities in China. The city had also already launched a new cargo clearance scheme along with Guangdong and Macao to streamline customs inspections and better monitor cargo movement between the three locations.
