Poverty commission to focus on upward social mobility
Says this will set its work direction.
The Commission on Poverty has urged the government to formulate policies promoting upward social mobility to mitigate poverty causes, and has decided to adopt this as its future work direction.
Members listened to a briefing by the Central Policy Unit on study findings from local academics on the causes of poverty in Hong Kong.
It was noted that poverty in Hong Kong originates largely from four interrelated aspects: structure, system, culture and personal and socio-economic status.
The commission also discussed ways to support low-income working families not in the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme.
