
Think Global, Think Hong Kong goes to Fukuoka
Japanese companies should look to HK to develop global markets.
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council held the Think Global, Think Hong Kong Symposium in Fukuoka yesterday to promote Hong Kong as an ideal partner for Japanese companies looking to go global.
The symposium drew some 500 representatives from companies in the Kyushu region keen to tap the opportunities in Hong Kong, the mainland China, the rest of Asia and beyond.
Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo) Sally Wong said Hong Kong and Japan have enjoyed a close relationship for many years.
Japan is Hong Kong’s third largest trading partner while Hong Kong has been the top destination for Japans food and agricultural exports, comprising 21% of such exports in 2012
Hong Kong tourists regard Japan as a favorite destination and are the fifth largest tourism source for Japan.
Wong talked about the unique advantages offered by Hong Kong, including a low and simple tax system; a business-friendly environment with free flow of capital and free flow of information; a liberal investment regime without any nationality restrictions on corporate ownership and a common law-based legal system underpinned by an independent judiciary.
