Hong Kong’s thriving economy is keeping unemployment levels low at 2.9% in December-February, according to latest labour force statistics from the Census and Statistics Department.
The number of unemployed persons rose mildly from 106,600 in November to January to 106,900 in December to February but was offset by the larger increase in the labour force actually which grew from 3,968,7000 to 3,979,300.
Underemployement levels also remained unchanged at 1% over the same period.
"Whilst changes in sectoral jobless rates were minimal compared to the preceding three-month period, the unemployment situation continued to show notable year-on-year improvement across many service sectors, particularly so for tourism-related industries such as retail and accommodation services amid the further recovery in inbound tourism," said Secretary for Labour and Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong.
