Javed Khan steps down as chair of HKECIA due to health reasons
He is replaced by Stuart Bailey.
During a specially convened session of the Executive Committee (Committee) on 27 January 2016, the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Stuart Bailey, Managing Director of Diversified Communications Hong Kong, as the chairman of the association for the remainder of the current term which runs until June 2016.
According to a release from HKECIA, Mr. Bailey replaces Mr. Javed Khan, Mega-Expo, who resigned his position on health grounds earlier this month.
The release said the Committee wishes to sincerely thank Javed for all of the time and effort that he gave in discharging his duties as chairman. Committee members are sincerely grateful for his contribution to the role and to the exhibition industry and would like to take the opportunity to wish him a safe and speedy recovery.
Here's more from HKECIA:
In a statement made after the vote Mr. Bailey said "I am truly honored to have been elected to this position and I look forward to performing the duties of Chairman to the best of my abilities. I am under no illusions, the task will not be an easy one, the convention and exhibition industry in Hong Kong has enjoyed much success over the past years but this is no guarantee of a successful future and much work needs to be done to ensure that Hong Kong's position as Asia's Trade Fair Capital does not slip."
The central government's much talked about one belt one road policy will bring many opportunities for Hong Kong to cement its place as the trade and investment hub for the region, however the infrastructure to allow exhibition and convention organisers to grasp these opportunities first needs to be expanded in order to cope with these demands. Mr Bailey hopes to raise the profile of the HKECIA and ensure that HKECIA members' voices are clearly heard on this and many other issues vital to the success of the exhibition industry and all of the local industries which flourish due to the world-class status of the events organised here in Hong Kong.
Mr Bailey has been in his current role at Diversified Communications since 2005 and has previously held the office of Vice-Chairman and Honorary Treasurer within the HKECIA.
