Financial secretary names Carlson Tong non-executive director
Tong’s experience and expertise in the accountancy and the financial-services fields qualified him for the post.
Financial Secretary John Tsang has appointed Carlson Tong as a non-executive director of the Securities & Futures Commission under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive for two years from April 1.
Mr Tsang has also reappointed Alexa Lam as the commission’s Executive Director (Policy, China & Investment Products) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer for three years from March 1, according to a government report.
“Mr Tong has rich experience and expertise in the accountancy and the financial-services fields. We believe he will provide invaluable contribution to the work of the commission. Mrs Lam contributed to developing the regulatory platform in Hong Kong during her past tenure and we look forward to her continued service with the commission,” Mr Tsang said.
Mr Tong is an accountant and has rich experience in the financial services field. He is currently a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Financial Reporting Review Panel and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Appeal Board. Between 2006 and 2008 he was Chairman of the Main Board Listing Committee of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
Mrs Lam joined the commission in 1998 and has been an Executive Director since 2001. She was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 2008 in addition to being Executive Director heading the Policy, China & Investment Products Division.
