HSBC Global Asset Management appoints Bill Maldonado as Regional CIO
He will relocate from London to Hong Kong in August 2011. Dr Maldonado oversees the investment strategies in Asia where the firm has US$72 billion of assets under management as at the end of March 2011.
Aside from being Chief Investment Officer, Asia-Pacific, Dr Maldonado retains his current responsibility as Strategy CIO, Equities. He will continue to report to Chris Cheetham, Global Chief Investment Officer.
Dr Maldonado has been working in the asset management industry since 1993, when he joined HSBC Global Asset Management as a European derivative-based portfolio manager.
Over the past 18 years, he headed up a number of investment functions, such as non-Traditional Investments (including passive indexation mandates, fund-of-funds, structured products and hedge funds) and Alternative Investments teams, before becoming Strategy CIO for Equities globally and CIO for the UK in 2010.
He was also involved in the management of some Asian portfolios in Hong Kong during 1993-1994.
Dr Maldonado holds a D. Phil in Laser Physics from Oxford University and an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management.
