Fruit juice syrups, powders from Taiwan recalled
The Centre for Food Safety called a stop on the use and sale of seven kinds of fruit juice/syrup and powder produced in Taiwan. These may have been contaminated with the plasticiser DEHP, or di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate.
Taiwanese authorities notified the centre yesterday that seven kinds of fruit juice/syrup and powder for manufacturing confections had been distributed to Hong Kong.
The centre contacted the importer of the five kinds of fruit juice/syrup to suspend sales of the products and to recall them.
It is tracing the importer of the other two kinds of powder for manufacturing confections to take follow-up actions.
The seven products are Strawberry Snowflake Ice Powder ,Strawberry Pudding Powder, Honey Peach Syrup, Kiwifruit Syrup, Lychee Syrup ,Mango Syrup and Strawberry Syrup.
The centre will continue to investigate the incident, monitor the situation and collect samples of related products for testing.
