Amidst H7 avian influenza scare.
In a report, the Centre for Food Safety announced that import of poultry products, including eggs, from Emilia-Romagna, Italy has been banned with immediate effect.
The announcement was made after the centre was notified by the World Organisation for Animal Health about an outbreak of highly-pathogenic H7 avian influenza on a layer hen farm in the area.
About 2,076 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 120,000 poultry eggs were imported from Italy into Hong Kong last year.
The centre has contacted Italian authorities and will closely monitor the situation.
