Export restriction on formula milk to stay in force: government
Despite rumors of political pressure.
According to a report, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says the export restriction on infant formula will remain in force until the Government is confident that suppliers and retailers can ensure an adequate supply for local families.
Speaking to the media after appearing on a television programme today, Dr Ko said the Government is examining the guidelines on enforcing the restriction, and the support provided to the frontline officers enforcing it.
He said he hopes that through experience and feedback, the guidelines can be improved.
He denied there is any political pressure to drop the restriction, adding it is not an appropriate time to form a timetable for its removal.
