Restaurant receipts value drop 1.8% YoY to $24.1b in Q3

Amongst restaurant types, bars had the biggest drop in total receipts.

The value of restaurant receipts decreased by 1.8% to $24.1b in Q3, data Census and Statistics Department (CS&D) showed.

The volume of receipts also declined by 5.1% in Q3.

Across restaurant types, bars saw the highest drop in total receipt volume (-19.2% YoY) and value (-15.6% YoY), followed by Chinese restaurants (-4.7% YoY, value; -7.6% YoY, volume), and non-Chinese restaurants (-0.1% YoY, value; -3.6%, volume).

Meanwhile, receipts value of fast food shops and miscellaneous eating and drinking places both increased (0.5% and 0.6%) despite a decline in volume (2.9% and 2.5%).

A government spokesman said that "the generally stable local epidemic situation and further relaxation of social distancing measures of late, together with the Consumption Voucher Scheme, should continue to provide support to the business of restaurants."
