Seventeen Hong Kong restaurants receive Michelin stars
World famous guide acknowledges Hong Kong’s continuing excellence.
The Michelin Guide has awarded two stars to five more Hong Kong restaurants and one star to 12 others. There was no change at the three-star level with four restaurants in Hong Kong retaining this status
The two star winners are Ah Yat Harbour View, Ryu Gin, Summer Palace, Sushi Yoshitake and Ting Lung Heen.
Michelin noted that not only have its inspectors found many new stars but have also discovered a wide variety of restaurants offering many different styles of cooking. It said it has expanded its coverage to take in new locations such as Kennedy Town and Sai Ying Pun.
The guide also features 54 simple shop restaurants in Hong Kong. These basic, local food stalls make up about a fifth of the guide and include noodle shops, roast meats, dim sum, Cantonese, Thai, ramen noodles and congee eateries and Vietnamese food stalls.
Three stars mean exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey; two are for excellent cooking, worth a detour; one denotes a very good restaurant in its category.
The Michelin Guide (or “Guide Michelin” in French) is a series of annual guide books published by Michelin. The term normally refers to the Michelin Red Guide, the oldest and best-known European hotel and restaurant guide that awards the Michelin stars.
Red Guides are also published for selected major cities: Hong Kong & Macau, Paris, London, Tokyo, Kyoto/Osaka, Hokkaido, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area & Wine Country, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
