Jobs in life sciences sought after in 2021
Randstad has released a list of the most in-demand jobs in the healthcare field in Hong Kong.
Human resources consulting firm Randstad has observed that more jobs in the life sciences industry are becoming in-demand after a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the healthcare sector is also ‘extremely’ resilient to financial pressures and economic changes.
At the same time, many global pharmaceutical, medical technology, and biomanufacturing companies have called Hong Kong their home in Asia Pacific.
“There is also a steadily growing number of start-ups that focus on health tech and novel medicines. Our supply chain infrastructure, talent community, as well as pro-business and innovative environment, are highly attractive to companies that are looking to expand their presence and grow their market share in this region,” Randstad said in the report.
As such, it has released a list of the seven most in-demand jobs in the life sciences industry in Hong Kong in 2021.
The list includes medical laboratory technologists, research scientists, clinical research associates/assistants, radiographers, medical device sales managers, product specialists, and medical writers.
The demand for medical laboratory technologists in 2021 comes as the job requires processing large volumes of COVID-19 swab tests. In Hong Kong, the talent demand seeks to boost its diagnostics capabilities and capacities.
On the other hand, the talent demand for research scientists comes as many countries invest more in oncology, particularly in pharmaceuticals, noting that the number one cause of death in Hong Kong is malignant neoplasm, better known as cancerous tumor.
