Government opens applications for seniors allowance program
Check out the qualifications.
According to a report, the Social Welfare Department started accepting phase three Old Age Living Allowance Applications yesterday, April 02.
The application period will run until December 31.
The phase covers new applicants aged 65 or above currently not receiving the Old Age Allowance or the Normal Disability Allowance but in need of the Old Age Living Allowance.
They must meet the eligibility criteria, including residence, and income and asset requirements.
Those aged 70 or above whose income or assets have exceeded the prescribed limits, or who opt not to switch to the allowance, can continue to receive or apply for the higher Old Age Allowance, which is $1,135 per month.
The department reminded seniors there is no need to rush to submit applications. Those submitting their applications by December 31, and meeting the eligibility criteria, will receive the allowance and a lump sum back payment counting from last December.
