Cataract centre opens at Kowloon East Cluster
The Wu Ho Loo Ning Cataract Centre under the Hospital Authority Kowloon East Cluster is now ready to double the of cataract surgery performed in KEC by up to 5 000 cases annually.
Furthermore, patients' waiting time will be shortened to less than two years. The cataract centre in Tseung Kwan O Hospital was established with the donation of $18 million by the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation.
"HA aims to shorten the waiting time of cataract patients. We not only allocate more resources and manpower with flexibility, but also focus on training specialists to help more patients," said HA Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu.
Director of Wu Ho Loo Ning Cataract Centre, Dr Kenneth Li added, "There are two operating rooms set up in the centre designating for cataract surgery. Design of the centre and sophisticated equipments can also increase efficiency of operations. Apart from serving patients, the centre will also be a specialist training base in future."
The KEC will be responsible for the management and clinical service of the centre whilst The Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong will provide training and prospective audit to the centre ensuring high quality and safety services are provided to patients.
