Top 5 institutions where business and commerce majors want to work
The Hong Kong SAR government is one of the five.
Most business and commerce majors in Hong Kong wish to work for a financial services company, J.P. Morgan, a study by Universum has found.
Besides J.P. Morgan, students surveyed also named HSBC, Google, and Apple as their dream companies.
The HKSAR government was also a popular choice not only amongst business and commerce majors but also for engineering and natural sciences students.
Other companies which went up the ranks in this year’s list include AIA Group (+33 places), Credit Suisse (+24 places), BlackRock( +20 places), Bank of China (+17 places), and DBS Bank (+12 places).
In terms of industry, business/commerce students prefer to work in banking (46%) the most, followed by advertising (30%) and financial services & technology and e-commerce (tied at 26%).
Employers, however, are not the only factor that students consider when applying, saying salary is also important.
According to the survey, students are now seeking 19% more starting salary given the current economic challenges the world is facing.
The expected annual salary of students also rose. In 2022, students’ expected annual salary increased to HK$303.0k (HK$25.3k per month) from HK$254.4k (HK$21.2k per month) in 2021.
