Over half of employees expect jobs to be automated in the next decade
Almost 4 out of 5 also expect their employers to invest in developing their digital skills.
About 53% of employees in Hong Kong expect their jobs to be automated in the next five to ten years, based on Randstad Hong Kong’s Q2 2019 Workmonitor survey.

More than three-fourths of the respondents (78%) also anticipate that their employers will invest more in developing their digital skills, whilst 83% said that they feel equipped enough with the skills needed in order to adapt to the new wave of digitalisation.
"Even though people feel equipped to deal with digitalisation in their jobs, companies need to prepare them for the future where job scopes are expected to become more sophisticated and complex," Randstad Hong Kong managing director Nathallie Sun said.
Because of the digital wave, 65% of employees have observed that their employers are keen on hiring workers with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) profiles. However, 72% have noticed that their employers struggle to find the necessary talents, and seven out of ten employees expect this to be the case in the future.
Sun explained that as the demand for such talent rises, candidates would most-likely receive multiple job offers. Employers will then have to compete amongst themselves to secure the talent they need.
