Hong Kong to push for new school curriculum to promote financial education
The Secretary of Education said that financial management is an important life skill.
Secretary of Education Choi Yuk-lin stated that the Hong Kong youth must learn how to manage their finances as it is an important life skill closely related to life planning.
During the Let’s Join Hands to Promote Financial Education event held by the Education Bureau last 13 February, Secretary Choi added that financial literacy should be started at an early age.
In terms of the bureau’s efforts to introduce financial education into schools, she noted that they are striving to promote it through different means.
These include developing a new school curriculum to integrate financial education, creating learning and teaching resources, organising activities and competitions, and collaborating with partners that can equip students with correct financial knowledge and attitude towards financial management.
The Education Bureau also hoped that through participating in activities related to financial management, students can apply what they have learnt in the classroom, review and reflect on their financial habits, and develop good financial values.
