A study from Hong Kong Baptist University showed that the overall average turnover percentage in Hong Kong ranged from 8.9% to 26.4%.
According to The Centre for Human Resources Strategy and Development of School of Business of Hong Kong Baptist University (CHRSD), the higher the employee level, the lower the turnover percentage was reported.
Career/Promotion prospect and pay were ranked as the top two reasons for employee turnover.
“Amongst the participating organizations, 47 of them had reported involuntary turnover, with the highest percentage (6.4%) recorded in the Real Estate & Property Management Sector, followed by the Construction Sector (3%),” read the statement.
In Guangdong Cities, 97 out of 184 responding organizations documented employee involuntary turnover in 2023 except other sectors, The Real Estate & Property Management Sector recorded the highest percentage (3.6%).
The average turnover percentage ranged from 11.8% to 20.4% for the survey period, with the highest percentage seen in the Senior/Managerial Staff level.
The survey was conducted between July and September 2023, where a total of 292 completed questionnaires online, covering around 183,000 employees from Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Guangdong Cities.
