Latest edition of 'This is Hong Kong' app unveiled
Guide Map feature has been upgraded.
According to a release, the Information Services Department today launched the latest edition of its This is Hong Kong application for iPads, iPhones, Android tablets, and Android phones.
The attractive new multimedia design of the free application featuring Hong Kong's skyline, people, and buildings, is inspired by traditional paper-cut and shadow-puppet art.
The new Guide Map has been extensively enhanced, with pins showing interesting spots on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, the New Territories, and on outlying islands. By simply touching the pins, users can obtain information about these locations, including photos and videos.
When a user touches the new Virtual Reality function and then a place of interest, the location will immediately come into focus. Where a place covered in the publication is within 300 metres of the user, a purple bubble will pop up to show its direction. Information on that particular place will be shown with a further touch.
The app is themed on the city's core attributes, showing what makes Hong Kong a diverse, dynamic, and cosmopolitan city closely connected to the rest of Asia and the world, while also offering a secure environment to live and work.
The app, available in English, traditional Chinese, and simplified Chinese, can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Android Market.
A web-based version is also available for online browsing. All electronic versions contain hyperlinks to websites on aspects of particular interest, such as festivals, theme parks, universities, museums, sports and arts events, transport, and many more.
