Hong Kong poised to become a premier IP hub
Sub-groups formed to spearhead IP promotion.
According to a report, Hong Kong is on its way to becoming a premier Intellectual Property trading hub, says Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So.
Mr So, who also chairs the Working Group on Intellectual Property Trading, led the group's third meeting today, which set out an overall strategic framework and endorsed a strategy for forging ahead with the development of IP trading in Hong Kong.
Two sub-groups have been formed to deliberate ways to spearhead further developments in promoting IP trading, and will focus on IP valuation, and IP arbitration and mediation.
Some of the initiatives under way include setting up an Original Grant Patent system, a review of copyright and parody that strikes a balance between copyright protection and freedom of expression, an IP trading portal and organising the third Business of IP Asia Forum in December with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
Additionally, a survey on IP trading and manpower will be conducted in the coming year to support the group's work.
