The ceremony’s programme included performances by district cheering teams, a grand illusion show by magician Avon Lee, and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong playing the games’ theme song ‘Come on Games On’.
It also included drumming and dance performances, performances by local pop-singer Hacken Lee and girls' groups As One and Super Gear, and a performance by the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison including military music and a rifle squad march.
The games is a territory-wide major multi-sport event held biennially since 2007, with all 18 districts competing for honours. Eight sports competitions will be held: athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
