Porsche Hong Kong unveiled new Porsche Boxster generation
The new car boasts of 15% better fuel efficiency.
In a release, Porsche Centre Hong Kong welcomed the new generation of the Porsche Boxster at the newly expanded Porsche Centre Hong Kong showroom on August 24, 2012.
The new car made its local debut in front of over 200 distinguished guests in the enlarged and comprehensively refitted flagship showroom.
Guests of honour for the evening included Mr. Helmut Broeker, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche China, Mr. Michael Kirsch, Chief Operating Officer of Porsche China, Mr. Helmuth Hennig, Group Managing Director of Jebsen and Company Limited, Mr. Mark Bishop, Group Director of Jebsen and Company Limited as well as Mr. Derek Tong, General Manager of Porsche Centre Hong Kong and Macau. Accompanying the entrance of the stunning new Boxster was renowned model Ms. Mandy Lieu.
Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster has a change of generation been so comprehensive. The new car rides on a new lightweight body and completely revamped chassis. Lower weight, a longer wheelbase and a wider track all contribute to further enhancing the car’s driving dynamics, which was already acclaimed as best in class.
The new Boxster’s exterior design showcases shorter overhangs, forward-shifted windscreen, a flatter silhouette and expressive panel edges. The completely redesigned, fully electric hood dispenses with a convertible compartment lid. The interior offers more space and the raked centre console, which traces its design to the Carrera GT, further improves ergonomics.
This powerful mid-engined roadster boasts superior performance and is also up to 15 percent more fuel efficient than the previous model. The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine, with the Boxster S upping displacement to 3.4-litres. Both models feature direct fuel injection (DFI), the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation,
thermal management and an integrated start/stop function.
The new Boxster’s power unit delivers 265hp – ten hp more than its predecessor despite a reduced engine displacement. The 3.4-litre engine of the Boxster S now delivers 315hp, five hp more than before. Both models feature a seven-speed PDK as standard with a manual six-speed gearbox available as an option.
With PDK delivering gear changes without any interruption to the power flow, the Boxster sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, the Boxster S in 5.0 seconds. These times are further reduced by 0.2 seconds if the cars are equipped with Sport Chrono Package. Both sports cars achieve their best fuel consumption and acceleration performance with PDK. The Porsche Boxster’s fuel consumption with PDK is 7.7 l/100 km and 8.0 l/100 km for the Boxster S.
To further enhance driving dynamics, a range of options are available including Sport Chrono Package (which comes together with the new dynamic gearbox mounts), Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical rear axle differential lock and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). Porsche Centre Hong Kong is operated by Jebsen Motors Limited, long term partner of
Porsche in Hong Kong.
The newly expanded showroom occupies over 8,000 sq. ft. of ground floor space and has more than doubled in size. The expanded facility allows the presentation of more Porsche models (up to 12 cars) in a spacious and impressive setting.
