“Green” production scheme extended
Awards focus to remain on energy efficiency and combating pollution.
Under Secretary for the Environment Christine Loh said the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cleaner Production Partners Recognition Scheme has been a priority area for Hong Kong-Guangdong regional environmental collaboration. The scheme and its awards encourage and facilitate enterprises in the Pearl River Delta region to adopt cleaner production.
Because of the scheme’s success, Loh said the government plans to extend the programme for another two years.
“This will tie in with the work of promoting energy efficiency and reducing emissions as stated in the National 12th Five-Year Plan, and further reduce the emission of air pollutants in the PRD region," she said.
Both Hong Kong and Guangdong recently honored enterprises for their green initiatives. More than 100 Hong Kong-owned manufacturing enterprises, three sourcing firms, and 24 environmental technology service providers were recognised as Hong Kong-Guangdong Cleaner Production Partners.
They were named in the latest round of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cleaner Production Partners Recognition Scheme organised by the Environment Bureau and the Guangdong Economic & Information Commission.
