Manufacturing industries' production index up by 5.4%
Following a 2.2% y-o-y increase in the second quarter, according to the provisional results of a survey the Census & Statistics Department released today.
Hong Kong's Information Services Department said that the corresponding producer price index fell 6.5% in the third quarter over a year earlier, following a 6% year-on-year increase in the second quarter.
The index of industrial production for sewerage, waste-management and remediation activities rose 8.3% in the third quarter over a year earlier, following a 2.8% year-on-year increase in the second quarter.
The corresponding producer price index rose 5.4% in the third quarter over a year earlier, following a 5.6% year-on-year increase in the second quarter.
Comparing the third quarter with a year earlier, the metal, computer, electronic and optical products, machinery and equipment industry had the largest output volume increase (+11.6%), followed by the food, beverages and tobacco industry (+6%), and the paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media industry (+3.7%).
Output volume fell in the textiles industry (-7.7%) and the wearing-apparel industry (-4.9%).
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the index of industrial production for manufacturing industries as a whole increased 1.9% in the third quarter over the second.
Producer prices rise
All industry groups recorded producer prices increases when comparing the third quarter with a year earlier. The metal, computer, electronic and optical products, machinery and equipment industry had the largest increase in producer prices (+14.5%), followed by textiles (+5.2%), food, beverages and tobacco (+2.3%), wearing apparel (+1.3%), and the paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media industry (+0.8%).
