Roy Tang to take on Hong Kong’s Director of Broadcasting post
Tang vowed to maintain the editorial independence of Radio Television Hong Kong.
Deputy Secretary for Labour & Welfare (Welfare) Roy Tang will become Director of Broadcasting on Sept 15.
Meeting the media Friday, he pledged to preserve the editorial independence of Radio Television Hong Kong.
He said he will work with RTHK staff to provide quality broadcasting services, adding the Government will groom internal talent to fill senior RTHK posts.
The promotion board for Deputy Director of Broadcasting will be conducted this month, according to a government report.
Mr Tang, 47, has worked in the former Environment, Transport & Works Bureau, Environmental Protection Department, and the Environment Bureau since joining the Administrative Service in 1987. He has been in his present post since May last year.
Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue said Mr Tang will ably lead RTHK.
The post was vacated by Franklin Wong in February when his contract expired. The Government conducted an open recruitment exercise, but could not identify a suitable candidate for the post.
