Gov't resumes land acquisition for Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen NDA

The acquisition includes 1,460 sqm of land occupied by 27 graves and 23 urns.

The Lands Department will resume the acquisition of 176 hectares of land for the second phase of the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area (NDA).

Authorities will also acquire 1,460 square metres of land currently occupied by 27 graves and 23 urns. The land will revert to or be vested in the government on 31 August.

Following land reversion, the government will give relevant landowners an ex-gratia land compensation.

The Lands Department clarified that the land reversion date is not the departure deadline for affected households and businesses. There are 1,693 households and 364 businesses occupying the land.

They will depart in batches from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the third quarter of 2025. Those affected received notification letters in November 2022.

The department is also arranging compensation and rehousing. The government hopes to release these to eligible persons before the clearance commences. 

As of May, authorities had engaged all 274 households who had to depart in the first batch. Among these, 85 are eligible for rehousing or ex-gratia cash compensation. 

The construction of the first phase of the NDA commenced in 2020, whilst works for the second phase will commence progressively this year. 

Upon completion, the NDA will provide about 66,700 additional housing units, accommodating a population of about 184,000.

The industrial and commercial land will create about 6.4 million square metres of gross floor area, providing about 150,000 employment opportunities.

The Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen NDA will be connected with Qianhai via the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link project.
