The secret to sleeping well
Turning the Asian consumer’s conception of what a good mattress is upside down, Hästens’ luxury bedding is quickly gaining a following of luxury seekers who understands the importance of a good night’s sleep.
While the name is becoming increasingly recognisable in Hong Kong, Hästens has been driving the luxury bedding industry for 160 years. Along with cotton, wool and steel, the Sweden based manufacturer’s is also filled with horsehair, a unique material said to offer the perfect balance of support, firmness and breathability.
Beyond their beautiful designs, Hästens beds are ergonomically built to provide deeper, more restorative sleep. Ultimately, explains Eson Chen, Managing Director of Hastens, the brand believes the right bed will not only provide a cosy place to snuggle up, but also enhances the sleeper’s health due to a boost in the quality of your snooze time. “Traditionally, the Asian customer believes a mattress needs to be hard to be supportive. But at Hästens’, we’re able to offer them something that has the right amount of spring and yet gives support to every inch of our body,” says Chen.
Hästens continues to bring to Hong Kong new models each year that draws upon the traditions of its manufacturing knowhow, all the while incorporating new technology into creating new beds that evolve to suit the needs of the modern-day sleeper. Not only that, but the brand has a unique way to share the Hästens sleeping experience with customers through its hotel and home bed trails.
Two of the new models that are finding their way to homes across the city are the Lenoria and the Platinum series. While one offers much more than the benefit of a great night’s sleep, the other is the fruit of contemporary engineering and development.
“Our clients who understand the important of seizing every opportunity to rest are now finding it increasingly important to have a comfortable bed in their study and even offices,” says Chen. The Lenoria, he explains, is exactly the right model for those who are looking for more than just a bed for resting.
A hub for relaxation
An adjustable bed that is designed, as Chen puts it, “entertainment”, the Lenoria not only provides easy access for elderly to get in and out of bed, but is also gaining a young following who enjoys doing other activities in bed. “Because of the way it can support our bodies at every angle, the Lenoria a great place to read, work and watch television. It’s really much more than a bed, but rather, a hub for relaxation.”
Unlike conventional adjustable beds that give off a clinical-vibe, the Lenoria is beautifully designed and its colour can be customised to blend seamlessly into a home. “Our customers can choose from 17 different colours for the mattress as well as the frame, as well as the firmness of the bed itself. This allows them to truly personalise their sleeping experience.”
Another novelty launched this year is the Platinum, a wholly new and innovative fabric that is designed to enhance comfort and beauty of Hästens beds. “This is a very special project for us, because of the uniqueness and the exceptional craftsmanship that goes into making this fabric, To help potential customers to really appreciate what the beds are all about, Hästens as rolled out a series of bed trial programs, which includes the hotel stay experience and the home bed trial.
“For our clients who are first approaching us about what we can offer and are curious about what the Hästens sleeping experience is like, we can arrange a hotel style for them where they’re invited to stay at a top tier hotel in the city. We’ve set up a room there especially for our customers and they can enjoy a night in a relaxed and luxurious environment and engage in a night of deep sleep,” says Chen.
And for those who cannot decide which Hästens we’ve decided to make Platinum available for only 1200 beds worldwide,” explains Chen.
The name of the fabric is inspired by its subtle sheen; the Platinum fabric is woven to give off a faint, silvery shine, giving it dimension and an added touch of opulence.
“The fabric is very plush and with exceptionally buoyancy. It enhances the support and the way the bed interacts with the movement of our bodies during sleep.”
A valuable investment
With a look at the price tags, it seems sleeping well doesn’t come cheap. Chen understands that a Hästens bed is an investment and he doesn’t expect his customers to understand the real health benefits without experiencing the beds first hand.
“After they try sleeping in a Hästens’ bed, they’ll understand what it means to feel truly well rested. You wake up feeling energetic, your mood is better and that’s an important part of starting your day right.”
suits them best, Chen and his staff can arrange home bed trials. “When our clients have decided they want to go for a Hästens bed, they might still have some questions about which model and firmness suits them best. In that case, we will work with them to pinpoint their exact needs and then select a bed that’s right for them.”
After this selection process, Hästens will arrange a brand new bed fitting the requirements to be delivered to their homes. “We off them a week of home trial – and once they can truly appreciate the long-term benefits of our beds, it’s simply impossible for them to give up their Hästens bed and we have another happy customer,” he says.
But beyond making another customer happy, Chen believes the most important thing is to about to provide an easy way to enhance the lives of his customers.
“To know we make a difference in their healthy, their mood and the overall quality of life is what makes me proud to be a part of Hästens.”
