3 in 5 in-store shoppers browse candy shops for holiday gift ideas
Online shoppers, however, tend to look to video games and electronics for inspiration.
In-store Hong Kong shoppers will most likely browse candy shops and toy stores for gift ideas whilst digital natives will peruse video game shops to give their loved ones during the holiday seasons, according to a survey commissioned by Meta.
More than three in five or 63% of in-store shoppers have said they discovered ideas or browsed for inspiration for holiday gifts whether for themselves or for their loved ones in candy or confectionery stores. Toys came at a close second for holiday gift ideas at 62%. However, this only proves true for older Hong Kongers as most millennials and younger would rather buy alcoholic beverages (57%) for friends and loved ones.
Meanwhile, most digital natives tend to browse online stores for video games (73%), travel or vacation ideas (69%), and electronics (69%). However, millennials’ top pick for holiday inspiration is live events such as theatre, concerts, and dinner (79%).
Respondents were also asked which categories they intend to shop for the holiday season this year. Top answers were food (55%), apparel/fashion (35%), and confectionaries (31%).
Approximately 1,500 Hong Kong respondents were interviewed for the survey.
