Volkswagen unveils new Passat in Hong Kong
In celebration of the official launch of the Volkswagen new Passat in Hong Kong, Volkswagen held a grand launch party on 11 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. To kick off this remarkable event, Volkswagen has invited Cyril, one of the best magicians in the world, to be the special performing guest at the car unveiling.
Local fashionistas, socialites, and celebrities including Yvette Yung, Albert Wong, Pauline Wong, Matthew Chan, Sally Chan, Wesley Wan, Edwin Ing, Diana Chang, Stephen Hung, Deborah Hung, Sue Lynn Hwa, Andrew Kinoshita, Lumen Kinoshita, Kryan Sze, Johnny Liang, Josephine Liang, just to name a few, attended the event to celebrate the evening.
The new generation of the most successful European business car is with new designs, new engines, less weight and not least with the latest assistance and convenience systems. Created based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB), the new Passat exploits synergies across vehicle segments such as progress in weight reduction measures. The result: the eighth generation Passat weighs up to 85 kg less than the previous model.
Thanks to cutting-edge design methods its proportions were made significantly more dynamic (including lower body, longer wheelbase and larger wheels). Even at night the Passat has an unmistakable look due to its newly developed LED headlights with dynamic cornering light (available in the 180PS model).
The new Passat is available with two direct injection turbocharged petrol engines which generate a maximum power output of 110 kW / 150 PS and 132 kW / 180 PS respectively, in Hong Kong. The 150 PS model is equipped with Active Cylinder Management (ACT) which temporarily deactivates two of the four cylinders under low to mid load situations. This enables the car to achieve an EU combined fuel consumption of 5.1L/ 100 km only. In spite of running on just two cylinders, with its excellent engine balance, the car is still very quiet and low in vibration.
Both engines meet Euro 6 emission standards, and the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were lowered by up to 20 percent. The cars are equipped with a dual clutch gearbox (DSG) and a Start-stop system with regenerative braking.
“Volkswagen’s brand vision is – not only providing customers with the right choice, but consistently the best choice,” said Mr. Thorsten Jaede, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Hong Kong Limited. “The new Passat is a perfect example to demonstrate this vision and sets the stage for the Volkswagen brand to migrate to a premium German car brand. It is because everything in this car is new – its design, technologies, engines and features.”
The latest assistance technology, Area View, has been applied in the new Passat. With Area View, manoeuvring in difficult driving situations is now much easier. There are cameras in the front, back and sides of the car which give driver a complete all-round view of the area around him or her, shown on the 6.5-inch "Composition Media" colour touchscreen display unit.
The Passat is Volkswagen Group's most successful model. The first generation was introduced 42 years ago. Since that time, this model has been sold over 22 million units across the globe. The new Passat was awarded the title “Car of the Year 2015”, the most well-known award in Europe. In addition, it has also triumphed over rivals in its class in a number of other internationally-renowned car awards in many markets, including Golden Steering Wheel.
The new Passat is now available with ACT 150PS Highline and 180PS R-Line model; price starting from HK$341,880 and HK$417,880 respectively in Hong Kong.
