Airport power savings in the works
The Airport Authority will replace lighting and upgrade air systems to cut carbon emissions by as much as 85%.
The authority's Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui said it plans to replace its traditional lighting in passenger terminal buildings with 81,000 LEDs by 2013, which will reduce carbon emissions by more than 7,000 tonnes a year.
The airport will also upgrade fixed ground power and pre-conditioned air systems at aircraft stands to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency.
Mr Hui said the authority and 40 business partners operating at the airport pledged last year to reduce carbon intensity by 25% by 2015.
