CNOOC to supply Hong Kong's transport sector with LNG
LNG to help cut HK’s notorious pollution.
State-owned oil firm China National Offshore Oil Corporation will partner with Hong Kong LNG Company to introduce LNG as a fuel for the road transport sector.
The partners will also build a network of LNG refueling stations. They will carry out a trial on an LNG-powered bus, which will be fueled in Shenzhen.
Hong Kong does not have any LNG fuel stations but is surrounded by a massive, robust LNG supply network and could take advantage of this. CNOOC currently supplies power company Hong Kong Electric and gas company Towngas with regasified LNG from its LNG terminal in Shenzhen.
CNOOC said it would be a challenge to bring LNG to Hong Kong since there is no legal framework for imports and there needs to be public education about the fuel.
