Hong Kong rolls out HKeToll
The new system will be launched gradually this year.
The Transport Department will be gradually launching the HKeToll this year across government-tolled tunnels in place of the manual and automatic toll booths.
The HKeToll service will allow motorists to use a toll tag to pay without having to stop or queue at toll booths.

Through Radio Frequency Identification technology and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, the system can also detect the use of a tolled tunnel by a vehicle by reading a toll tag affixed on the vehicle's windscreen or by capturing an image of the vehicle's number plate.
This will allow the system to automatically deduct tunnel tolls from users’ preset toll payment accounts.
