MTR suffers 5-hour train service disruption due to power failure
It was ordered to submit a report.
According to a release, Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung has asked the Mass Transit Railway Corporation to submit a report on the five-hour train service disruption today.
Speaking to the media after inspecting Yau Tong MTR Station, Prof Cheung said the power failure on the Tseung Kwan O and Kwun Tong Lines stopped train services from 12.40pm to 5.30pm.
He said an explosion sound heard at the time of the incident was caused by the power failure.
The MTRC must submit a report explaining the incident within three days.
Prof Cheung said the Transport Department activated the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre to co-ordinate Police, public transport operators, and other government departments in alleviating the impact to commuters.
Buses were brought in to transport the 6,000 passengers affected by the suspension.
