The decision comes in response to the growing demand for EV maintenance, following a comprehensive study conducted by the Government and the Vehicle Maintenance Technical Advisory Committee. The study reviewed international practices and local needs to establish new criteria for EV maintenance training programs and registration requirements.
The committee has outlined specific guidelines for EV maintenance services, including standards for personal protective equipment, first-aid supplies, fire safety measures, and testing tools. The new system will categorise EV maintenance services into three levels: elementary, low voltage, and high voltage.
EV maintenance will now be categorised into three levels, namely elementary, low voltage, and high voltage.
Registered vehicle mechanics will be eligible to provide EV maintenance services upon completing the required training. The council has approved eight training programs offered by the Vocational Training Council, the Occupational Safety & Health Council, the Kowloon Motor Bus Academy, and the Guangzhou Communications Technician Institute. To date, over 350 mechanics have completed these programs.
