Dairy Farm, CLPe Solutions to develop 1 million kWh solar panel system
The 2,000-solar panel system will be the largest in Hong Kong’s retail sector.
The Dairy Farm International Holdings and CLPe Solutions Limited have partnered to develop a solar panel system that will generate over 1 million kilowatt per hour of renewable energy.
The solar panel system will comprise of 2,000 solar panels that will be installed on the rooftop of Wellcome Fresh Food Centre. It is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022.
It was noted the power generated by the system is enough to meet the annual electricity needs of nearly 250 households in Hong Kong.
“The solar power project demonstrates how we can adopt environmentally-friendly practices and make our business more sustainable,” Choo Peng Chee, CEO of North Asia and Group Convenience of Dairy Farm Group, said.
“By creating an eco-friendly workplace, we aim to engage team members in the sustainability agenda through integrating it into their everyday lives and engineering a building they can be proud to work in.”
The project is in line with the two companies’ commitment in supporting renewable energy development.
Upon its completion, the solar panel system will be connected to CLP Power’s grid and will generate Feed-in Tariff (FiT) revenue for Dairy Farm, under the FiT scheme of CLP Power.
“While the proposed solar system with additional metal cladding layer will maintain the Fresh Food Centre indoor temperature, the project will also produce renewable energy for the power system,” Alex Keisser, Managing Director of CLPe Solutions, said.
