Hong Kong food festival launches in Osaka
A special menu featuring good Hong Kong-style cuisine is being offered at the Hong Kong food festival in Osaka throughout the month of August.
The Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative, Mrs Jennie Chok, said the event is a good way of enhancing cultural exchange, as Chinese food is acknowledged to be one the greatest cuisines of the world and is an important and deep-rooted part of our culture.
"And among the many varieties of Chinese cuisines, exquisite Hong Kong Cantonese food is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, in China," said Mrs Jennie Chok. "So, I hope that many Osaka people will, after tasting some delicious Chinese dishes here this month, be tempted to make an early trip to Hong Kong and discover many more exciting and appetising dishes in the 'home to Chinese cooking' itself," she added.
Osaka was chosen to be one of the destinations for the food festival in Japan because Osaka is the most important economic centre in the Kansai region and one of the most important cultural and commercial cities of Japan.
"Moreover, multi-faceted friendly ties already exist between Hong Kong and Osaka because of the business, tourism and cultural exchanges that have gone on for generations between us," Mrs Chok added.
T he food festival in Osaka is the second in a series of Hong Kong food festivals that the Hong Kong Tourism Board is organising in different parts of Japan. The first one was held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in June.
