Gov’t opens application for subsidy scheme on offering youth hostels
It will assist NGOs to rent hotel and guesthouse accommodation.
The subsidy scheme for NGOs to rent hotel and guesthouse rooms to be used as youth hostels, the government said.
In a statement, the financial aid will cover NGOs’ costs for renting hotels, which will make minor improvements or furnishings, purchasing equipment, and providing value-added and community services to tenants.
It looks to increase supply of the segment by 3,000 within the next five years.
Hotels and guesthouses that are interested in participating in the scheme can register with the government, and NGOs can apply for funding to rent rooms from the list of eligible participating hotels and guesthouses.
As for the amount, it will still depend on location and size of rooms, provision of communal facilities, and accessibility of the hotel or guesthouse.
