HK opens first recycling store in an MTR station
The number of GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling stores in the city has reached 40.
Hong Kong's GREEN@TSING YI, the pioneering recycling store within a Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station, commenced operations on 23 February.
Following GREEN@TSING YI’s opening, the number of GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling stores in the city has reached 40.
In the launching ceremony, Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan highlighted the extension of the Environmental Protection Department's GREEN@COMMUNITY network to the MTR Station, aiming to engage passengers and nearby residents in clean recycling and prepare for Municipal Solid Waste Charging.
Tsing Yi is situated within the Kwai Tsing District, the smallest yet most densely populated district in the New Territories.
At the store’s launch, Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan announced a pilot collaboration program between the department's GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme and the MTR's Carbon Wallet.
Through the GREEN$ mobile app, users can now convert their GREEN$ points to carbon wallet points, unlocking rewards such as complimentary single-journey MTR tickets.
Meanwhile, over 70 smart recycling bins have also been installed in various locations, and three-colour waste separation bins have been provided for about 2,700 building premises, enhancing recycling efforts across Hong Kong.
