More than half (53%) of Hong Kongers have over 10 days of annual leave left to take this year, according to a survey by global travel search engine Skyscanner. In addition to the five public holidays in October and December, this adds up to a total of 15 plus holidays in the pipeline for the rest of 2017.
When it comes to destinations, 35% of the respondents wanted to travel within Asia with their remaining holiday. With Skyscanner’s data revealing the top five destinations in Asia for Hong Kongers as Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, and Tokyo, these locations are likely to prove popular in the second half of the year.
For those who are planning to book a trip, Skyscanner data reveals that the cheapest months to travel from Hong Kong are October and November. November is the cheapest month to travel to Taipei, Osaka, and Bangkok, with travelers able to save an average of 13.8% on flights if they travel during this month.
In addition, the survey results showed that 54% of respondents only needed 1 to 2 weeks to submit their holiday requests so there’s still plenty of time to use up those days and escape overseas! In general, according to Skyscanner’s Best Time to Book data, Hong Kongers are most likely to grab a bargain by booking flights six weeks in advance for Taipei and seven weeks in advance for Osaka and Tokyo.
When asked where they would like to travel with their remaining annual leave, 27% of respondents said it “does not matter”, while just 6% stated they had “no plan” to travel, revealing a desire to travel regardless of the destination!
