New travel scheme welcomes non-HK residents from China

The Come2HK Scheme will be rolled out later this month.

Hong Kong will be opening its borders to non-residents from Mainland China looking to visit the City through the “Come2HK” scheme.

“This is the first step to facilitate people flow between the two places. I understand we should be ready to implement the scheme later this month,” Chief Executive Carrie Lam said.

"We should have the needed arrangements at the airport to welcome these non-Hong Kong residents coming from different parts of the Mainland to come to Hong Kong.”

She noted visitors from Mainland China will not undergo the 14-day quarantine, but will be subjected to quarantine requirements when they return to Mainland China.

This followed the government’s move to extend the Return2HK scheme for residents from China from 29 April to 16 May.

The Return2HK scheme likewise waived quarantine requirements for HK residents arriving at the Hong Kong International Airport or any land boundary control points, coming from Mainland China and Macao.

At least 135,900 passenger trips have been made by HK residents under the scheme.
